People Helping People: Ready to Mobilize When Disaster Strikes

IN MEMORY OF DANIEL BENEDIX

Sept. 23, 1974-February 14, 2025

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our leader Dan Benedix on February 14, 2025 after a 19 months long battle with esophageal cancer, which he developed after being exposed to the poisoned water on Camp Lejeune as an infant.

In honor of Dan’s passion and dedication to humanitarian efforts for disaster relief and recovery, the Board and our volunteers remain dedicated to Dan’s vision of helping those in need when disaster strikes, without delay. As soon as disaster happens upon a community or individual, the Benedix Foundation is prepared to step in and provide essential support to help those in need get back on their feet and resume their everyday lives.

A Celebration of Life Memorial is currently being planned. Please check back often for updates and as always, thank you for your support. Dan would have been so glad to see that you stopped by.

Thanks to our volunteers and donors, the Benedix Foundation has shipped over

We’re Ready When Disaster Hits

The Benedix Foundation for Disaster Relief believes that a predictable, repeatable disaster response is not only a more efficient way to deliver relief but it is by far the most humane way to support communities in their time of crisis.

The Benedix Foundation will be prepared prior to a disaster with a definable quantity of relief supplies that allows us to set expectations with the people on the ground who need our help the most. Knowing what they can expect to arrive for relief will allow families and individuals to focus on other things. Chaos is the biggest risk of a disaster, and eliminating as much of that as possible allows communities to focus their resources quickly and efficiently into appropriate directions.

Focusing on high efficiency, high performing aircraft we are able to best utilize our volume and weight carrying capacities to serve the needs of the communities we are providing relief to as quickly as possible–often faster than government relief.

ABOUT PROJECT YURT

*NOTE: The above images are from the Amazon listing. You can see the full description and pricing here.

Winter comes earlier to the mountains of North Carolina than it does elsewhere, and this year the cold weather is coming right on the heels of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. Project Yurt provides a four season tent to those in need of a place to call home while they rebuild their lives. Each Yurt is heated with propane (heaters generously donated by Lowes Home Improvement) and is stocked with items such as beds/cots, bedding, towels, cookware, clothing, etc. You can also order items from our Amazon Wishlist and have them sent to the warehouse. And, of course, we always accept monetary contributions (just click the donate button) and offers to volunteer! (fill out form below).

THANK YOU to our friends at Locked and Loaded Bar and Grill in Garner, NC, for their amazing fundraiser and generous donation to the Foundation, with which we have purchased four yurts for our neighbors in Western NC.

THANK YOU

The Benedix Foundation would like to thank Michael Richford, the town of Millbury, MA and the Millbury High School Class of 1992 for choosing us as their Meat Raffle Fundraiser beneficiary this year. This amazing group of businesses and individuals raised over $5600 in support of our founder and their departed classmate, Dan Benedix, and his dedication to helping those affected by disasters, (primarily at this time the people of Western North Carolina who continue to be affected by the ravages of Hurricane Helene).
