Benedix Foundation Initiatives

Chaos is the biggest risk of a disaster, and eliminating as much of that as possible allows communities to focus their resources quickly and efficiently into appropriate directions.

We currently have four targeted campaigns for the folks in Western North Carolina: Project Yurt, Project Firewood, Project Neighbors (which benefits our Cedar Grove neighbor, Botanist & Barrel), and Project Basic Needs.

We are incredibly grateful for all donors and volunteers, big and small. Thank you so very much for helping us help others-directly.

Project Yurt

We are dedicated to providing exactly what people need to actual individuals in immediate need. With winter coming, that means shelter. Project Yurt aims to provide as many four-season heated tents and supplies (such as furniture, cookware, bedding + blankets, clothing) to as many people as possible. Each tent is approximately $1800 (see the Amazon link HERE) and we are thrilled to have been able to purchase five in the last week and a half, thanks in a huge part to Lock and Loaded Bar and Grill.

Project Firewood

It’s already very cold at night in the mountains and the people there are without heat. The easiest way to ensure warmth is to provide enough firewood to see folks through the winter. With the donation of log splitters from Lowes Home Improvement and the help of volunteers who come to cut down trees and process the wood at our farm in Cedar Grove, we’re able to provide ample fuel for the cold days ahead.

Project Neighbors

Botanist & Barrel Cidery and Winery has been an Asheville staple for many years, but nobody was safe from the wrath of Helene and now the whole company, including its location in Cedar Grove, faces the very real possibility of closure.

As our founder’s next door neighbor in Cedar Grove, we encourage RDU locals to visit our favorite place to relax, listen to music, socialize, and enjoy delicious, organic beverages and farm fare-and to buy their product!

From their recent instagram post @botanistandbarrel: “To try and prevent (closure), we’re making a move: starting now, we’re offering a 10% discount on all orders over $100 until December 31st, 2024. Whether you’re local or just passing through, every purchase helps. This applies to both in-store and online orders, and we’ll be featuring a couple of our favorite ciders and wines each week along with the stories behind them.”

Project Basic Needs

The bottom line is that Helene left so many people with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Homes, businesses, income from tourism and more…our mountain neighbors are depending on the outside to help rebuild.

Our Amazon Wishlist is long, and the needs are many. Every little bit helps. Please see the Donate with Dignity note below for drop off location and hours, and thank you for being such a generous human to others.

Donate with Dignity

In partnership with the North Carolina Disaster Relief-RDU to WNC facebook group, we accept donations Mon-Sat 10-3 at 207 Bickett Blvd, Raleigh, NC 27608 (it’s the big blue warehouse with Electric Co. of the front. As you collect and bring donations, please bear in mind that the people you are helping are those who are just like us and appreciate items that are thoughtful and cared for (if not brand new). When donating, we simply suggest that you ask yourself if it is an item you would want, goods you would use, or food you would eat. As always, your generosity is deeply appreciated. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
